Mixed-use development expands to North Old Town
The Kingsley, which opened in October 2014, is an excellent example of mixed-use development in Old Town. The building, which boasts a 52,000 sf Harris Teeter, a rooftop terrace with river views, a community clubroom, and lobby with concierge service, has 175 rental units ranging from 510 square foot studios to 1,300 square foot two bedroom units. Rental rates start at $1,850 and top out at more than $3,800. The building has a walk score of 98 out of 100.
The project was developed by Andros and Buchannan Partners and is being managed by Bozutto. “Old Town is magic,” said Robert Buchanan, principal at developer Buchanan Partners. “A lot of people were pleased to be involved.” Developers for the project contributed funds towards a variety of City initiatives, including affordable housing, upgrades to the Montgomery Park, public art and a Capital Bikeshare station. The project created 150 new jobs for the City.
The Harris Teeter is the first full-service grocery store to move into Old Town in decades. It includes an extensive meat counter, bakery, hot food bar, eat in café area, and a full service pharmacy. Separate parking is provided for Harris Teeter customers in an underground garage.
