City of Alexandria Departments of Interest for Business

  • Alexandria Permit Center–multiagency center for citizens, businesses, and visitors to obtain construction-related permits at one central location; featuring small business facilitators to assist homeowners and small businesses through the construction permitting process

  • Department of Code Administration–plan review, inspections, and education about the requirements of Virginia and city codes

  • Department of Planning & Zoning–neighborhood plans, review of applications for new development, zoning issues including special use permits, historic district regulations, and more

  • Finance Department–collects and manages all city funds, assesses and collects revenues and taxes, and issues business licenses

 

Transportation Resources for Businesses

The City of Alexandria’s GO Alex program partners with Alexandria businesses to promote public transit, ridesharing, bicycling, and walking as alternatives to driving. GO Alex staff works with employers to provide free assistance in designing and implementing commuter benefits programs and customized transportation solutions.GO Alex aims to provide Alexandria residents, employees, and visitors with transportation information and services that offer solutions to driving alone.
